I began studying piano in Vancouver at the age of four. My mother was a professional opera singer and performed with the Metropolitan Opera, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir for many years. I was always surrounded by music and began accompanying singers, choirs and church services at the age of 13, and taught my first piano lesson at 15.
I received many awards, scholarships and honours distinctions during my formative years and went on to continue my studies in Toronto with the renowned Darwin Aitken as well as further studies in recorder at the Toronto Conservatory. Over the ensuing years I have performed in a number of diverse situations from pop bands to choral and dance accompanist and church music leader.
Music lessons should be fun, and the goal is to be able to sit down at the piano and play songs and make music. My lessons include a combination of ear training, note reading and chording so you are playing songs withing a few weeks. I also teach advanced classical piano and prepare students for Royal Conservatory exams.
Schools in our district offer credits toward graduation for students who take exams through the Royal Conservatory or Associated Board. Click here to see RCM Exam levels required for High School Credits. Consult your school counselor for specific guidelines.
